Demoiselle cranes, also known as Kurja or Kurjan birds, can be spotted in various parts of India, especially during their migration season. These migratory birds are known to travel long distances, and India is one of their crucial wintering grounds. The best time to see Demoiselle cranes in India is during the winter months when they migrate from their breeding grounds in Central Asia. In Rajasthan, they're mostly spotted at Khichan ("Khichan Bird Sanctuary").
Here are some locations in India where you can witness the arrival of Demoiselle cranes:

  • Khichan, Rajasthan: Khichan is renowned for being a major wintering area for Demoiselle cranes. The birds usually arrive here in large numbers between October and March.
  • Jodhpur, Rajasthan: The region around Jodhpur, including the Khimsar region, is another place where Demoiselle cranes can be seen during the winter months.
  • Sambhar Lake, Rajasthan: Sambhar Lake, the largest inland saltwater lake in India, is a habitat for migratory birds, including Demoiselle cranes.
  • Kutch, Gujarat: The Kutch region, especially areas like Kutch Desert Wildlife Sanctuary, is frequented by Demoiselle cranes during their migration.
  • Banni Grasslands Reserve, Gujarat: This reserve is known for hosting various species of migratory birds, including Demoiselle cranes.

The Demoiselle cranes usually arrive in India from their breeding grounds in Mongolia and Central Asia around October and stay until March, taking advantage of the milder winter climate.

The haunted (not really haunted, as now there are tickets to enter and explore this village in the day time) place in the Jaisalmer region of Rajasthan is believed to be the abandoned village of Kuldhara. Kuldhara is known for its mysterious and eerie atmosphere, and it is often associated with local legends and tales of paranormal activities. Visitors are intrigued by the deserted structures and the enigmatic history surrounding Kuldhara, making it a destination that sparks curiosity and a sense of the supernatural.
